The Dads of Castle Rock Community Outreach (DoCR) non-profit has once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to supporting the local community by sending a remarkable donation of $20,278.94 to the Douglas County school district. This generous contribution aims to alleviate the lunch debt burden faced by students in Castle Rock and ensure that every child has access to nutritious meals without financial hardship.

At the beginning of July, the lunch debt for Castle Rock students stood just under $31,000. Recognizing the importance of addressing this pressing issue, DoCR took immediate action by pledging a substantial payment that covers approximately 66% of the total outstanding balance. The donation will be evenly distributed amongst all Castle Rock students who currently carry a negative balance for their lunch accounts.

All students in Colorado will have the opportunity to be offered free lunch at school in the upcoming school year after Colorado voters favored the Healthy School Meals for All ballot measure but those with outstanding balances will still feel the stress of last year’s outstanding balances.

This act of compassion and generosity is set to significantly impact the lives of numerous students and their families in the Castle Rock community. By covering approximately two-thirds of each student’s outstanding lunch debt, DoCR’s donation will ease the financial strain on families, providing a fresh start to the academic year without the burden of unpaid lunch balances.

“We believe that no child should ever go hungry or face financial stress in accessing a meal at school,” said Johnray Strickland, a representative of the Dads of Castle Rock organization. “Our mission has always been to support and uplift our community, and we hope that this donation will make a positive difference in the lives of Castle Rock students and their families.”

The Dads of Castle Rock have been actively involved in various philanthropic efforts in the region, advocating for children’s welfare, education, and community development. Their ongoing commitment to the betterment of Castle Rock exemplifies the spirit of unity and compassion that defines the organization.

The DoCR encourages other community members, businesses, and organizations to join them in their mission to ensure that every student can enjoy the benefits of a nutritious lunch, free from the stress of financial constraints.

Nestled in the heart of Castle Rock, Colorado, lies an unassuming bridge on Meadows Parkway. For years, this bridge has stood as a silent witness to the town’s growth and evolution. However, beneath its surface, a hidden treasure awaited discovery—an awe-inspiring mural depicting the American flag and three silhouetted figures representing our courageous firefighters, dedicated police officers, and selfless soldiers. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Dad’s of Castle Rock (DoCR), and the generosity of Behr Paint and Moore At The Meadows, this historic artwork was recently brought back to life, serving as a profound tribute to our nation’s heroes.

The board and executive team of DoCR joined with a select few DoCR volunteers and jumped into action to restore a dilapidated mural underneath the Meadows Parkway bridge during one of their regular community clean-up initiatives. The members carefully peeled away layers of debris and grime to allow for a fresh coat of paint on the striking depiction of the American flag, proudly waving in the wind, with three enigmatic silhouetted figures standing in front of it.

The figures were unmistakably symbolic of the men and women who tirelessly serve their community and country—the firefighter, the police officer, and the soldier. The mural, though faded, still emanated a sense of honor and gratitude for these everyday heroes who put their lives on the line to protect and serve others.

DoCR: A Community Dedicated to Restoration

The Dad’s of Castle Rock, or DoCR, is a tight-knit community group formed by passionate individuals who share a common love for their town and a desire to make a positive impact. Their involvement in various charitable initiatives has earned them the admiration and respect of Castle Rock’s residents. When news of the mural reached the group’s ears, it was clear that they had found their next restoration project.

Embracing the Challenge

To restore the mural to its former glory, DoCR needed more than just determination; they required resources and support. Fortunately, two local businesses, Behr Paint and Moore At The Meadows, stepped up to provide the necessary paint and supplies for the project. Their invaluable contribution was a testament to the strong community spirit that thrived within Castle Rock.

With brushes in hand and hearts full of dedication, DoCR members and volunteers embarked on the meticulous process of reviving the mural. Layer by layer, they carefully recreated the stunning image of the American flag and the three courageous figures, blending tradition and modern techniques to preserve the mural’s original essence.

A Tribute to Heroes

The restored mural now stands as a magnificent tribute to the brave souls who risk their lives for others’ safety and freedom. The vivid colors of red, white, and blue breathe life back into the American flag, reminding passersby of the enduring strength and unity of our nation.

The silhouetted figures are a poignant representation of the selfless individuals who embody the spirit of service—firefighters, who rush into danger to protect lives and property; police officers, who maintain order and ensure our safety; and soldiers, who defend our country and its values.

Beyond the bridge’s concrete and steel, the mural’s message resonates with the entire community, fostering a sense of gratitude and unity. The heroes depicted in the mural may be faceless, but they represent countless real-life heroes who dedicate themselves to making the world a better place.

The restoration of the historic painted mural underneath the Meadows Parkway bridge in Castle Rock, Colorado, is a testament to the power of community and collaboration. Thanks to the passion and determination of the Dad’s of Castle Rock, along with the generous support from Behr Paint and Moore At The Meadows, this symbolic artwork has been given a new lease on life.

On August 7th, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, the Dads of Castle Rock hosted their second annual lemonade stand take-over. Dozens of dads met at Parrish Park at 12:30pm and were assigned one of two predetermined routes to ensure no stand was missed to visit 30 lemonade stands with 60 to 70 kids in the community selling lemonade and other treats.

From the moment the kids saw the convoy of vehicles approaching their lemonade stands, you knew they were well prepared. As they went over their sales lines in their minds and straightened up their stands, there was no doubt that these kids meant business, and they all nailed it!

Presentation was on point. From the well-designed banners and cool menu’s, the selection was awesome. Strawberry lemonade, watermelon lemonade, sparkling lemonade, sugar free lemonade, and even Jell-O shots (for the adults!) The young entrepreneurs even sold baked goods ranging from cookies, brownies, blueberry lemon bars, and even a stand with hot dogs with all the fixings, including chili! This was one of my favorite stops!

For me, this was a great opportunity to see my community get together and do something special. It’s something I’ve never done in any other neighborhood I’ve ever lived in. To be a part of this was such an awesome and moving experience. Seeing my son Jase greet all of his new neighbors and hesitantly hand over his money for lemonade was what sealed the deal! I knew this was more than just lemonade and snacks. It was a great time for families to meet and interact with each other, and it was a valuable experience for these kids. And Jase can’t wait to do it again! Possibly open a stand of his own next time.

As a father who recently moved to Castle Rock a little over 4 months ago, this trip around town brought me to neighborhoods that I hadn’t previously been and having the opportunity to meet all the parents was an incredible way for me to meet other parents in the group and community. Knowing we have a common interest in our children’s future reinforces our decision to live and raise our children in Castle Rock.
